Getting Certified as a Hypnotherapist

The path to becoming a hypnotherapist often befgins with earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work or another related field, providing a foundation for the understanding of theory and practice of mental health and other clinical professions related to the field of hypnotherapy. Upon the successful completion of an undergraduate degree, a student must complete either a master’s degree, doctorate or a medical degree, depending on the chosen career path of the individual as well as the specific state requirements for licensing and practicing measures. At this stage, the student will choose their specialty, and complete further specific hypnotherapy techniques and therapies in their chosen field. A student hypnotherapist is also required to complete a set number of hours gaining experience within a clinic. This may take the form of a medical residency or similar graduate program, internships within a hospital or mental health facility, or another related field of experience.

Once a hypnotherapist is fully qualified, they will usually be required to complete a certain amount of ongoing education each year to ensure they remain up to date in their knowledge.
