Get Licensed as a Tattoo Artist

In most states, you are legally required to hold a license to operate as a tattoo artist. In order to attain a tattoo license, an artist must complete training such as an apprenticeship in an accredited setting under the guidance and supervision of a fully licensed tattoo artist. This process typically takes several years, as the apprentice must first understand and master the hygienic practices of the profession, and then move on to the artistry side. Some states also have age restrictions in place for training and employment or require a high school education or the equivalent.
