Plumbers must hold a state license to work in North Carolina. The license is awarded by the State Board of Examiners of Plumbing, Heating and Fire Sprinkler Contractors. You must show proof of two full years of experience. Up to half of the experience can be substituted with academic or technical training. You must pass a trade exam, as well as a business and law exam.
